The Day They Came to Suck Our Brains

Episode 7 - 'A New Hopelessness' (Channel Flip/The Multiverse, 2013)

The Day They Came to Suck Our Brains was a very important series for me, since it was my first regular professional job as a composer. Ten episodes and two trailers over 12 weeks, each requiring original music. But since the episodes were usually between 5 and 10 minutes long, each one rarely took longer than a day and it was so much silly fun, it's definitely one of the most stress-free, enjoyable jobs I've ever done. I went pretty much into Series 1 of Crackanory after that, which was far more demanding with ferocious deadlines, but having done Brains had convinced me not only that I could do it, but that I enjoyed it, and since then I basically stopped acting and became a full-time composer. So it changed my life. Brains is also notable for a couple of cameos I did - both luckily in my favourite 2 episodes. This one is from Ep 7, featuring me right at the start as a club singer. Weirdly, I did the filming before the music so I improvised the scene & lyrics on the day and filled in the music and SFX afterwards. I also ended up as an American tourist at the end of my favourite episode, The Wrath of Ken, along with my wonderful wife Katy. Thanks to Bob Pipe and James Wren for this life-changing opportunity.
